Research at Stubley Medical Centre
Tuesday November 4, 2025
What this means for you
Stubley Medical Centre is proud to take part in NHS-supported research through the NIHR Clinical Research Network East Midlands. These studies help improve patient care and NHS services, and we may occasionally invite patients to take part. Before this happens we will explain fully what your involvement would mean.
Your choice – and your care
Participation in any research study is entirely voluntary.
- Choosing not to take part will not affect the care you receive at Stubley Medical Centre in any way.
- Whether you take part or not, you’ll continue to receive the same high-quality care from our practice and the NHS.
How we may use your information
We may use information from your medical records or ask you to agree to some additional tests — only if you are eligible and agree. Here’s how it works:
- If we want to use information that identifies you, we will ask you for written permission.
- If your information is anonymised (so you cannot be identified), it may be used without extra consent — for example, to count how many patients have a particular condition or take a specific medicine.
- We comply with national laws and guidance on use of medical records and patient data.
Your rights regarding your records
You have the right to ask for your details not to be used for research as part of your medical record. If you prefer this option:
- Please let us know at the practice and we will record your decision in your medical file.
- We will respect this decision, except in rare cases where disclosure is needed to protect you or someone else from serious harm or risk of death.
Research at the practice
Any research study we invite you to take part in will have approval from a recognised research ethics committee. These committees ensure all studies are safe, ethical and well-managed.
If you are invited:
- We may share your name and contact details with the research team (with your consent).
- The research team will treat your information confidentially and according to the same standards as our own staff.
Protecting your privacy
- Your full medical record at Stubley Medical Centre is held electronically.
- You have the right to see and request changes to any incorrect information in your record.
- If any member of the research team (or other staff) accesses your records, they are bound by the same confidentiality requirements as doctors and nurses.
- If identifiable data is sent outside the practice, it is always handled securely and first reviewed by a practice staff member.
If you have any questions about research or how your data may be used, please speak to our Practice Manager at Stubley Medical Centre.
